04.05.14It's Official!

Big News: I have successfully defended my doctoral document defense and will be graduating with my DMA degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln next month. Special thanks to Eric Richards for mentoring me and shepherding me through the hoops. It's been a short three years and while I will miss Lincoln dearly, I am excited to move back into a full-time teacher's role at Gustavus this Fall!

My arrangement of Bob Borgstede's beautiful tune, Nola's Waltz, is now available for purchase through UNC Jazz Press. All royalties received from the sale of this chart will go to a scholarship fund in Bob's honor at Southwest Illinois College. You can check out the audio on my "listen" page.

02.01.14Moving to Minnesota

I am so excited to announce that I will be joining the faculty of Gustavus Adolphus College this Fall as the new Director of Jazz Ensembles and Assistant Professor of Jazz/Composition. My family and I are looking forward to the northerly move early this coming summer!

08.27.13Artist Residency at the University of Tampa

I'm excited to announce an artist residency at the University of Tampa this November! I will be working with the students, playing with the UT Jazz Ensemble, and premiering a new big band composition, "Fogo Acima Das Nuvens."

02.15.13Off to Romania!

I am excited to once again be headed back to Bucharest for a research trip! This March I will be researching Romanian traditional music, mysticism, and folk dance for a larger project that will occur in 2014. This particular project will collaborate with Romanian vocalist, Luiza Zan.

01.02.13Presenting at JEN This Week!

I am excited to be presenting my research on music listening skills at the Jazz Education Network's International Conference in Atlanta, GA this week! If you are at the conference, please feel free to check out my clinic entitled "Do You Hear That? - Effective Teaching of Music Listening Skills" at 5pm in the International Tower.

12.12.12Q Street Shuffle Awarded!

My original composition for jazz orchestra, Q Street Shuffle, was just selected as 1 of 4 compositions to be featured at the Student Jazz Composition Showcase at the Jazz Education Network's International Conference this coming January! The piece will be performed by the world class U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble.

10.24.11Back to Bucharest!

On November 2nd, I will be heading back to Bucharest, Romania for another residency at the National University of Music-Bucharest! Romania is a beautiful country (for those that haven't been) and has a vibrant and rich musical heritage. While there, I will also be collaborating with Mircea Tiberian (piano/composer/jazz director at UNMB), Luiza Zan (vocals), Sorin Romanescu (guitar), Vlad Popescu (drums), Cristian Soleanu (saxophone), and others.

I will now be playing with a phenomenal ensemble as part of the NEW WORLDS performance at the SoNoRo International Chamber Music Festival on 11.11.11! All music has been composed and/or arranged by NYC composer/producer, Daniel Schnyder. My good friend, Luiza Zan, made this happen! Many thanks to her!
