Dave Stamps is a jazz and commercial music composer/arranger and trombonist in the Twin Cities, MN. He is also actively involved with the development of the International Society of Jazz Arrangers & Composers (ISJAC) and as the Director of Jazz Ensembles and Assistant Professor of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Having grown up in a musical family, Dave knew pretty early on that he wanted a career in music and arts education. He studied music at Indiana University-Bloomington, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (BM), Northern Illinois University (MM, jazz performance), University of South Florida (MM, jazz composition), and received his DMA in Jazz Composition from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has previously taught courses on the faculty of University of South Florida and the University of Northern Colorado. He also got his start in arts administration at both schools having served as Managing Director of the Center for Jazz Composition at USF and the Associate Director of Jazz Studies (portfolio included UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and UNC Jazz Press administration) at UNC.
Dave is currently working on writing for his first large ensemble recording project with the hope of an early 2020 release date. You can also find him performing with vocalist Shaun Johnson (Emmy-winning frontman and founder of a cappella group, Tonic Sol-Fa) throughout the midwest, as well as, at many events with the Twin Cities Jazz Composers Workshop throughout the Twin Cities metro.
An avid world-traveler, Dave is also frequently on the move and enjoys seeing the world with his family. Eighteen countries and counting!
